Sgwarnog: In the Field

Billing

Living up to the ground's name of Billing View, Rawdon Old Boys pitch is tucked in at the foot of Rawdon Billing, the wooded hill in the background of this image. Although of modest elevation, the Billing is a prominent feature above Airedale and can be viewed from miles around (for example.).

Rawdon were hosting Hunslet Club in a West Yorkshire Association Football League Premier Division fixture. I'd last seen them at Baildon Trinity Athletic dishing out a 9-0 mauling a couple of seasons ago. They've had two successive promotions since then, but the Premier Division is proving a tougher task and they're at risk of relegation with only a couple of matches to go. Tonight's 1-2 defeat hasn't helped. I've posted a few more images for the match here, and for a bonus Rawdon gold post box (David Stone) see extras.

Earlier, it had been a good day for butterflies in the park, including my first Red Admiral of the year. And the ladybirds were frisky (extra).
