Clematis montana var. grandiflora

Today's the day …………………… for the promise of things to come

This is the very first flower to open on a clematis growing just outside the kitchen door.

It's a new one for us - we've only ever had pink montanas  before.  It must be quite a mature plant because it's huge as you can see in the extra - perhaps about 3 metres high - and it's covered in flower buds. 

I'm sure it's going to look pretty amazing over the coming weeks ……………..
