Easter Craiglockhart Hill View
Another glorious day. It was supposed to be cooler, but it doesn't feel like it. The wind seems to have died down a bit. I do a bit of work on the road bike, as the gears weren't changing slickly enough. It is an easy morning.
In the afternoon,my partner and I head down to Morningside. We are not sure what to do, and my partner says she would like to go up Craiglockhart Hill. So we get off at Morningside station and head along Balcarres St. We enter the woods at Craighouse. Unfortunately the paths around the Old Craighouse are shut, so we have to take a different route up the hill though the woods (Extra 1). After another closed footpath, but we walk around the fence, and on to another path, and come out at the top.
There are some great views from the top. The main blip looks north through the blip to Donaldson's College and across the Forth to Fife. Extra 2 shows the view of Corstorphine Hill from one of the seats at the top. We then head down the hill to the Pond at Craiglockhart Sports Centre. The Pond used to be used for rowing and canoeing, but now it is returning to nature. At the north, there is a wild area with bullrushes (Extra 3) and other water based plants. Then we walk down to Craiglockhart Terrace, rejoining the urban environment, and Colinton Rd to Holy Corner.
We have a nice cup of coffee and snack at a café at Holy Corner, before picking up tea and heading home. Work tomorrow, but a four day week. It's been a great weekend.
