Overtime
Well, getting out the door for work about 9.30am on a Saturday is an unusual experience thankfully.
The Boss and the Manager are on duty at the party conference, and as the Boss’ 3 constituent surgeries had been booked and advertised before we had the conference dates, they had to go ahead.
Enter yours truly, stage left.
Just as well. The first two were busy. I only spoke to two people but they both needed quite a bit of time and were worthwhile.
The one with the lady in the Polish Club in particular was interesting, ranging from Chernobyl to our ageing population and dementia. The main point was how the Boss could do better to inform the local Polish community about what his surgeries involve and the ways in which we can help constituents.
It was my first visit to the club. Saturday morning is obviously the time for children to get their Polish language classes. A busy and noisy place, but fun and welcoming.
The rest of the day will be quiet.
As an aside - but a very, very pertinent one - the club was originally an ex servicemen's club for Poles who escaped occupied Poland at the start of WWII to fight on the allied side, were based locally and managed to stay on after the war ended. Churchill sent many back to Poland for execution or exile to Siberia.
