Saturday: Sai Woo

We met up with V and E this morning for a fine dim sum feast. Afterwards, we enjoyed a lovely walk through Chinatown. It being Independent Book Store day we naturally had to stop off to make a purchase at an independent book store.

Despite the look of it, this is actually a newish sign in Chinatown. Vancouver used to be a very neon rich city until the 1970s when the City Council thought it made the city look cheap. Sadly, a lot of the neon was removed. The owner of this restaurant discovered some very old footage which showed about 5 seconds worth of this neon sign outside the original building. She decided to have it recreated and it was installed a couple of years ago
