Arnside Viaduct

Our plans for this morning were changed, which gave us the opportunity to visit Arnside Knott, often seen in gladders' blips.
Our access was delayed by a truck and stock trailer blocking the entrance; it transpired that the Highland cattle were being loaded to be taken to auction tomorrow. I have to say that they were most reluctant to leave, but leave they did (extra photo), to the regret of a local couple also watching the event, who had enjoyed the presence of the breed on the Knott.

On a gloriously summery day, the Knott lived up to its reputation: we saw bluebells and cowslips, brimstone, orange-tip and speckled wood butterflies and birdsong a-plenty (not that our untutored ears could identify all of them). I loved this twisted branch, creating a hungry monster (extra 2).

We then repaired to The Albion for lunch, watched trains cross the viaduct (main photo), before we called on our friend in Storth.
