Mahonia berries
The blackbirds seem to love these, although how many they actually eat I'm unsure. They spend a lot of time in the bush, and often fail to notice approaching humans until you get very close. Perhaps they know that mahonia is so prickly that no-one's going to present a credible threat to them while they're protected by it.
I went for two walks today, and think I'll try increasing my mileage over the next month or two, weather permitting. If I get a bit farther afield there'll be more photo opportunities too.
