A close look at this Sea Urchin shell reveals its intricate and complex structure.  Sometimes it is possible to find a complete shell on the beach but unfortunately this one has broken up. When alive they have spikes and were once thought to be a type of sea hedgehog – urchin being an old word for hedgehog.
