The Barn Own Centre Gloucester

As part of Marks Birthday pressie I suprised him with a trip to the Barn Owl Centre in Gloucester where we were lucky enough to handle a Common Buzzard and an Eagle Owl.

It's so much more than the name suggests though as they have around 60 Owls, Buzzards, Eagles and other birds of prey.

Not open to the general public, this amazing little sanctuary rescue and rehabilitate birds of prey and raise money by pre booked flying experiences.

The volunteers here work incredibly hard and it's clear that they care dearly about the birds and have formed special bonds.

At the centre they have recently taken on around 10 beautiful birds which for years were abused by their owner who has since spent time in court and was thankfully banned from owning any animals again and fined a pathetic £200. But on the plus side, the birds are doing really well and slowly begining to trust humans again.

The Barn Owl Centre in Gloucester has been waiting for planning to be granted to expand the sanctuary for almost 5 years for these amazing birds. I just wish they had more help and support.

Perhaps one day it will be illegal for just any Tom, Dick of Harry to own Birds of Prey.
