Wife killer

I was afraid of this type of motorcycles when I was a little girl.They were called "wifekillers" and I could not understand how any woman could go in the sidecar, then they would die. 
Today, I saw several of these on the motorcycle parade, which oddly is included in the workers First May celebration. Though the motorcyclists probably do not demonstrate, they just want to show off their toys.
