A favourite alpine

One of the stars of my small alpine plant collection is this Lewisia

Lewisias are named after Meriwether Lewis the famous American explorer who, with Clarke, trekked into the northwest of America in the early 1800s.
He it was who discovered these plants which grow on the north face of mountains in Oregon and Washington States.

It is not very difficult to grow and reliably puts on a good show. It comes in many different colours. I have some in the alpine house but this one is very happy in a tub on the front driveway.
