Salvage from the Wreckage

KOTM

In the evening, C was playing in the OU Orchestra’s gala concert to mark the 50th birthday of the OU. In a proper theatre and with proper tickets. And with a proper star - Evelyn Glennie. And some young percussionists. Really good concert!

The concert was at the same place that we play Friday Evening Football and started at the same time the football ended. I was tempted to go straight from one to the other but common sense (and consideration for my neighbours) kicked in and I gave the footie a miss. But this meant I could squeeze in a quick lunchtime run. Not much time though so I ticked something off from my ToDo list. A while ago, one of the newer runners noticed a Strava section near the OU and sprinted it to get a top ten place. And then made a big deal about being faster than me. My protestations that my time was part of a 5K run fell upon deaf ears. So, today, in a cynical fashion, I ran the 5K route pretty slowly and then went for it on the short section. With the result that I knocked 10 seconds off his time and, as a bonus, posted the fastest time. “King of the Mountain”.

It’s pretty meaningless to concentrate on one section for a runner but it was worth it for the post run conversation.
