Wild Woods
The track through the woods at Harestanes - part of St Cuthbert's Way - is alive with wild flowers today. There are bluebells - Spanish, so no scent, alas. In amongst, there's wild garlic, just coming into flower . Also in bloom are violets, forget-me-nots, red campion and wood-sorrel, and even some kingcups by the side of one of the streams.
The colour on the ground made up for the grey sky. The sun appeared very briefly, followed by a short sharp hail shower. Not a day for picnicking, rather a swift retreat homewards and the lighting of the stove.
