Hot spot!

It’s been a sunshine and showers day on our way north from Skye through Wester Ross.

Yesterday I consulted the weather page before our walk up Quirang ( I rarely do this in Scotland as it can change so readily) It showed the blue and white of rain and snow over the northern part of Skye at 7.00 pm, just when and where we were heading for dinner.
As we drove into Waternish just after 7 we could see the weather front coming in across the sea. How’s that for accuracy!
It passed whilst we were inside the cosy Inn and was mainly sleet. It was over when we came out.

This morning, leaving Skye we could see snow over Blaven (Blah Beinn) and the the Black Cuillin where we walked on Thursday. Coming back alongside Loch Carron, which was in glorious sunshine, and then Loch Torridon most of the Torridon range had a covering of snow.

We stopped for lunch at this green hut in Kinlochewe, last time we were here it was called the Whistle Stop Cafe but is now the Gorse Cafe. No matter the food was excellent on both occasions. We had Celeriac and Leek soup. Perfect for the day and wonderfully creamy. There were a lot of (middle aged) bikers who arrived after us so we were lucky to get a table. Not surprised the menu looked great. I was tempted by the Potted West Coast crab with crumpets but the bacon and scallop sandwiches seemed to be going down well too. Lots of other temptations on the menu if you wanted a full meal. Shame it is a bit far to go back just for a meal but well try to pass this way again.

The sun was out when we arrived at the ‘wee hoose’. Which is good as it warms up really quickly. Now watching the tide come in and the sun shifting from the beach to the mountains and back. The Coigach/ Assynt mountains are a bit lower so there is only a dusting on the biggest, Beinn More Coigach, Cul Beag and Cul Mor.
Chris is lighting the log fire and we are opening a bottle of white to have with our Crab and Lemon pate, a gift brought back by Grace and John at Easter. We bought some cake too from the cafe to take away, chocolate and banana. A feast!
Time to relax and chill with Scottish music on the radio. I will soon be removing layers as the fire gets so hot!
( Loved the flowers and gorse on the blip. Azaleas are out everywhere as is the gorse of course and the bluebells, especially on the roadside verges. Lovely time to be here. Seen our first red deer today and an eagle. Yesterday we saw 3 hares on our walk - maybe this will be the year of the otter?)
