Indian Scout

Left work a little early as S wanted us to visit daughter J again as she has had a day of not feeling great (putting it mildly). On the way we stopped at the local supermarket to get some convenience meals for her, as she isn't feeling up to cooking for herself, and won't come back to the apartment where she has to sleep on a child's bed.

When we emerged from the supermarket, I noticed an Indian Scout motorcycle parked, and the owner chatting to the rider of a motor scooter parked beside it. Put the bag of groceries in the car and returned to ask the owner's permission to photograph what is clearly his pride and joy. As I got closer, he ended his conversation and walked quickly into the store. So I took the photo anyway.

S' younger brother owned an Indian motorcycle in the late 60s. And even then it was an antique. Plus, I understood that they were no longer being made. Wikipedia tells me that from 1901 to 1953 Indian motorcycles were manufactured in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Scout was made between 1920 and 1946. In 1953 the company went bankrupt. In 2011, the bankrupt company (Indian Motorcycles) was bought by Polaris, and since 2013 various modern Indian motorcycles have been marketed.

We were in S' wee Nissan Micra, which cost us less than this bike would have cost. An expensive nostalgia ride.
