Medlar
We've known there was a specimen of this unusual tree in Redhill for a while, but haven't been able to find it. (According to Richard Mabey's Flora Britannica, John Stuart Mill found it in 1831, but I guess he just got lucky!)
S enlisted the services of a local botanist today, and finally tracked it down. Not much of a picture, but there isn't that much to see of the medlar as it is entwined in a much larger hedge. I plan to make more of an effort when it flowers in the near future.
