Old lady Fraxinus...
...or Ash to her friends.
(Just discovered that in British folklore, the Ash is seen as the feminine counterpart to the Father tree, the Oak. And whilst we’re talking folklore...
Apparently snakes can’t bear to be near an Ash tree.
In Irish folklore, if Ash trees cast a shadow on crops, it was though the crops would be ruined.
And in northern England, Ash trees were thought to cure rickets and warts.
Who knew?!
Remembering my Granny telling me the rhyme that predicts how much spring rain we’ll get from the dates when the Oak and Ash trees bud:
Oak before Ash we are in for a splash
Ash before Oak we are in for a soak.
I guess the Ash buds arrived before the Oak this year...)
