Presents
Just before I left for Hong Kong, a friend of mine gave me this large box of handmade chocolates for my birthday. I didn't have time to look at it at all and G put it in the fridge to make sure it would be OK. Today, we finally opened it and tried a couple. There are 64 in all, so let's see how long they last!
The day started with the a/c men coming back to look at G's unit. It is not cooling. After investigating, they said that it is cooling too much and ice is building on the coils, so please run the a/c on Medium rather than Low. Hmmm...
I've spent a lot of the day researching various things. I came across this article about digital storage/facts. The two sentences where the author relates the amount of data to the human body is mind-boggling.
Here's how it builds up:
1 bit = 1 binary digit
8 bits = 1 byte
1024 bytes = 1 KB (Kilo Byte)
1024 KB = 1 MB (Mega Byte)
1024 MB = 1 GB (Giga Byte)
1024 GB = 1 TB (Tera Byte)
1024 TB = 1 PB (Peta Byte)
1024 PB = 1 EB (Exa Byte)
1024 EB = 1 ZB (Zeta Byte)
1024 ZB = 1 YB (Yotta Byte)
1024 YB = 1 Bronto Byte
1024 Bronto Bytes = 1 Geop Byte
A Geop Byte is the Highest memory (so far)
- It's estimated that the human brain can store around 2.5 PB of memory data.
- A single gram of DNA can hold 490 EB, at least in theory. That's over 5 billion 4K movies. Let that sink in for a minute.
The second fact truly is hard to get one's mind around if you can understand how big an exabyte is. And to believe it happened by pure chance...
Hope the rest of your week is GOOD! :D
Oops! Forgot to mention that G disappeared into the kitchen for a few hours. She made a lasagne and four cakes! There was, er, quite a bit of washing up. I always said she would make a very good Minister of Labour!!
