A cliff is a cliff

We went to see the birds on the cliffs just along the coast from us. Mainly Kittiwakes at the moment, although we did see a few Fulmars as well. The Kittiwakes are just arriving from spending the winter at sea and appear to be taking up nesting sites and pairing up - probably at the stage of choosing the carpets and that I suppose is what all the noise is about. 

Interesting to compare this photo with one taken last year. A cliff is a cliff, whether natural or manmade.

What you can find out
As we were sitting in the sunroom of our house watching the waves, Gordon spied a strange looking ship He couldn’t catch its name through the binoculars, but I took a photo and enlarged it and found it was called PATRICIA. I looked on the Internet for this ship and found it was a Buoy-Laying vessel owned by Trinity House and spends its time wandering the coast maintaining lighthouses, buoys etc. What’s more I found it had set off from Blyth that morning and was on its way to Longstone Lighthouse, which is set on a rock in the Farne Islands and is the one made famous by the rescue made by Grace Darling at a time when the lighthouse was manned and she lived there. 

It is an impressive vessel and even has a helicopter landing pad. I also found you can go on a voyage on the ship and watch the work it does. The accommodation looks amazing. What a great idea for anyone interested ion that sort of thing.
