A 'Grand' Day
One of 'those' days today. Not necessarily one where everything goes wrong, but one of those where everything that has gone wrong recently has somehow coalesced.
They came to collect my car this morning. Last week I spotted a large scratch and dent on the nearside wing; someone must have driven into it when it was parked somewhere but, of course, I have no way of knowing where or by who. So that's £500 down the drain.
We went off to the monthly Arts Society meeting. The subject was William Shakespeare and his life. The presenter clearly knew and was enthusiastic about her subject but her delivery was awful; monotone, loud and with no breaks. She would move on to a completely different topic without drawing breath so it was very difficult to follow. A shame, as the speakers are normally very good. So that was a couple of hours wasted.
This afternoon they delivered and installed the new tumble dryer. The old one hadn't completely broken but filled the room with steam and the on/off switch had an attitude problem. So it had to go. Another £500 for that so with the car that's a Grand with little to show for it. It took them about two hours to fit it, largely because it's 'built in' and they found it difficult to re-attach the door hinges. But it's now in and the men headed off.
We put a celebratory damp towel into the new tumble dryer to test it out. Somehow, I don't think tumble dryers, especially new ones, are supposed to make a noise like a Caribbean steel band. I'll be on the phone to them tomorrow.
