It pays to be observant when riding in a car late in the day. Saw five deer on the country road (too quick to capture) and this one moose/elk. This one relied that it would not be spotted if frozen on the spot. Somehow I still noticed it, perhaps 20-30 m off the road. Likely its huge size helped.
