Sunday Market, Port Douglas, Queensland
Had a lie in until after 7 this morning. Were very surprised to hear it raining, well pouring actually - had heavy but short showers for most of this morning but this didn't stop us going to the Sunday Market.
The man with the beard in today's pic is called Ron, 14 yrs ago he sold MrD an Aussie Bushman's hat, that hat has seen a lot of countries over the years and is even worn on the rare occasion when the sun shines in Anglesey. Ron recognised the hat straight away and both men had a good old chat. I wandered around the ladies' hat section and found a lovely Panama hat which I'm wearing as I type this blip, MrD bought it as a Christmas present, it cost 20 Aus$ - about £14, but looks very expensive!
We wandered around the market looking at all the weird and wonderful crafts, jewellery, fruit, clothing, wooden carvings, opal stones and sampled some of the foods too.
I later bought MrD a Christmas present of a gadget which looks like a Swiss Army knife but which has knife, fork and spoon as well as bottle opener. This is actually to replace a camping cutlery set which was confiscated at Perth because I'd forgotten to move them into the stowed backpacks, we were told to stand away from the other passengers whilst our day bag was searched, the knife and fork removed and put in the bin. We were allowed to keep the spoon and the wallet! and sent on our way feeling like criminals ....
I spent a lazy Sunday afternoon reading, whilst MrD had an afternoon nap.
We have a bit of a journey planned for tomorrow so maybe an early night tonight.
Hope everyone is having a good Sunday x
