THE WEEKEND HAS STARTED

We had a good journey up to Lincolnshire - all went well but Mr HCB doesn’t like taking instructions from Mrs SatNav so at one point he took a wrong turning. All was not lost though as we then went through some pretty countryside as Mrs SN started to “recalculate”!!

You can see the oil seed rape fields and the beautiful church in the little village of Titchmarsh - at the top left and middle of my collage - and I wonder if any relatives of Alan Titchmarsh, the television gardener, came from here? However as Mr HCB reminded me, had he not made this diversion, we wouldn’t have seen such lovely countryside!

We then went on to Crowland, a small town in the South Holland district of Lincolnshire where we had heard there was a ruined Abbey and a lovely church and we were not disappointed.

When we walked in, we were greeted by 88 year old Bill, the taller of the two men in blue, and Michael. Bill certainly knew his stuff, being a native of Crowland, and followed us round, giving us plenty of information about the church, the demolished Abbey, the roof, the pulpit and so much more.

If you want to know more about the Abbey do look at this website - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crowland_Abbey

At the bottom middle of the collage is Trinity Bridge, a unique three-way stone arch bridge that stands at the heart of Crowland - it once spanned the confluence of the River Welland and a tributary but now the rivers have been re-routed and it now spans nothing significant!

We are with friends now - so I apologise for not commenting - hope you all have a great weekend - if the weather holds we may be going to the seaside tomorrow so I’m quite excited about that!

to people who make us happy,
they are the charming gardeners
who make our souls blossom.“
