Millions Missing
It was crochet/knit group today and after almost finishing my project, I went along to support blipper AMK81 at the Millions Missing event to raise awareness of ME and CFS.
A few in the group had made blue flowers for the campaign and although I had just planned on stopping on my way to the tram, I ended up staying for 2 hours to help tie on the tags to all the flowers.
Quite a sobering experience because so many sufferers are house/bed-bound and had sent shoes to represent themselves and the fact that they feel they are missing from their own lives.
The notes attached to the shoes were heartbreaking to read and a young girl of 12 bravely took to the stage to share a poem she had written about her life with ME.
A powerful reminder of the hidden struggle some people face and how their reality can be that just getting showered and dressed can take all their energy reserves for the day.
Quote for today:
Someone else is dreaming about the things you take for granted.
