Ethiopian Binding
Took a BAG ( Book Arts Guild) workshop today with someone who loves and teaches ancient book bindings. Ethiopian is a bit different from Coptic...in that it has persisted til recently and traditionally use wood covers where Coptic is on sheets of papyrus laminated together and known from archeological evidence (4th—11th CE) Still tricky. ( have done a few “Coptic” from looking at you tube... but learned a bit more here .. no great shortcuts :-))
Not sure how I will use it but got several good tips. I do like the sewing. There was lovely handmade linen indigo dyed paper to make the traditional box to carry the book in.... but we ran out of time. Perhaps a later blip as the paper is gorgeous.
