Metal Strap

I spotted this metal strap on a wall in a back street but I've no idea what it's for (other than Blipping!).  It's no longer used but it was close to where the gate is so it could have been part of the original hinge. There's a number of layers of paint that are peeling off exposing a lovely rusty colour underneath.  There's a little bit of rather dry looking moss growing on top and an elaborate looking cobweb under it.
