Myrina

Northward - a short 25 mile stretch to Lemnos. Filthy weather, frequent rain showers, strong winds, two reefs in; and all the while we glumly pass round photos from mobile devices of friends sailing in the sun kissed west of Scotland. Still, later, the wind drops a bit and we’re treated to a fabulous dolphin escort as we near Myrina, the main town.
And we’re there by 1pm so plenty time to look around, visit the castle, go for a solitary coffee and finish my book (appropriately, No More Boats) before congregating in a harbourside bar. And there was a great shambolic local wine shop I stumbled over - empty bottles on racks, full shelves at the rear of the shop. What are you after, asks the owner: I was after red wine. We have no red wine. Bizarre. The shop looks full of red wine. Only boxes, he says. And right enough he has piles of boxes of red wine. From his own vineyard and he shows me the label as proof of authenticity. A box it is.
Later, out to Tavern Glaros beside the harbour as the sun went down behind the castle. I know what I’d say to the SK about not being able to buy these sorts of experiences.
