The good news, and the bad news...
A local auction house was offering free valuations at a nearby community centre today, so I went along with a few bits and pieces, some of which were collected by my great grandmother and great aunt.
Good news: the 1910 doll is in very good condition and made by one of the best makers. Bad news: ten years ago it would’ve been worth over £200, but the market has collapsed and is now only worth £30-£50.
Good news: 1855 gold US dollars sell for around £150. Bad news: as my great aunt had this one made it into an earring, it is now only worth £25.
Good news: the double headed coin is quite rare. Bad news: it’s only worth £10-£15.
Good news: the first edition art book is worth £20-£30. Bad news: its weight makes it unsaleable due to postage costs.
Amongst the other items, the pair of leather bound books from 1738 are worth £30-£50, and the pre-war German cigarette card album (given to my uncle when he was serving in Germany in the RAF in 1945) is worth £80-£100.
The cigarette card album will be sold by the auction house in a specialist military auction in a few months, the rest is soon to appear on eBay!
Must dash, it’s time for Eurovision!!
