Moeraki Flag Station.....
....a little bit of history.
In June 1875 the Rangiora-Oxford Railway line was opened. It was twenty-one miles and operated two mixed trains each way, carrying passengers and freight. It took an hour and 40 minutes for the uphill trip from Bennetts to Oxford, or a full three hours for the run from Christchurch. The need for a railway line to Oxford became necessary as the timber industry grew in the area. The line was permanently closed in April 1959 as the competition from road freight increased.
The Moeraki Flag Station is the railway station for Springbank estate, situated on the Rangiora-Oxford line. A bit old and rustic now and fading away in a fully fenced paddock nestled beneath the trees.
Sunday.....a beautiful morning until the cloud came in, it was all a bit grim and quite cold. I took a drive out west thinking I would capture this derelict building for Derelict Sunday. Thanks to 60plus for hosting.
Thank you for your stars, favs and kind words for yesterday's Dublin Bay rose, a beauty as winter creeps in.
Have a good week everyone :)
