Where the Light Gets In

Meet Marion

talking about fights
to make our world better
in france and in spain

Marion and Christian (extra) were at the bookshop near us as part of a cycle of conferences entitled "Worlds to defend and worlds to invent".

They told us about their fight in the Notre Dame des Landes Zone À Défendre (Area to be defended) where the aim was to block the construction of a new airport that would destroy a great deal of biodiversity as the place is a rather rare example of wetland. They won in the end, when the government abandoned their project in January 2018.

There are multiple such fights in France alone. The last book by their collective, "mauvaise troupe", which I could translate to "bad lot", is called Borroka! and is an A to Z of rebelliousness in the Basque Country (both in France and Spain).

I bought this book, as well as another called Constellations, that is a collection of essays about "revolutionary trajectories in the young 21st century (1999-2013)". I'd seen it in the bookshop before and liked it, both for its contents and its cover (the photo on the cover is by Flore-Aël Surun, who works with a collective of photographers called Tendance Floue ("Blurred Trend") ).

Claude presents both books in extras, for your viewing pleasure. :-)

I had the feeling I was participating in a meeting of dangerous, seditious activists, as the police duly noted all the registration numbers of the cars that were parked by the bookshop. Well, Marion and Christian belong in a movement that will go and support the counter-G7 summit in Biarritz in a few months, so maybe they had come to recruit people? Which they might actually, incidentally, have done...

Oh and by the way, Marion told me, when I asked if I could take photos, "Go ahead, we don't mind, but I'm not photogenic."

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! °collapses for lack of air°
