It is a mystery how this lone egg appeared on the beach.  It is about 11 centimetres long and resembles a swan’s egg but I have never seen any swans near there and although very few people walk on that stretch of coast, the obvious place for a nest would be on a little island close by.  Perhaps someone stole it and put it there but no doubt it will never hatch now.
