I think these are male and female of the same species, but I'm prepared to be corrected. It's our 36th wedding anniversary today. S proposed we go on a walk together so I quickly scrapped the 25-strong walking group and chose a lovely walk above Montlaur that I'd been on with them almost exactly a year ago. Lovely views, lots of wild flowers, not too strenuous. It was a glorious sunny day with a breeze to keep us cool. See extras for a couple more highlights.

Back at the car we were feeling peckish and decided to detour via Lagrasse for a spot of lunch. The tapas bar we favour was closed, so we ended up at La Petite Maison, which we haven't tried before. It looks cheap and cheerful, but it was surprisingly good. I had a small and delicious salad with goat's cheese, S had a massive slab of quiche with a much larger salad. Perrier for me, red wine for him. After looking at what other people were having we couldn't resist dessert, and we were right: they were Michelin-worthy. A little tarte au citron with added grapefruit and a caramelised top, and an excellent lemon cheesecake with gingernut base and a light-as-air ginger-flavoured Italian meringue on top. We shared both of them. It was a little more expensive than you might expect (40 euros in total), but worth it.

Home for a chilled out afternoon! More fun planned for tomorrow (S's birthday).
