Astronaut Bearcat!

I was out doing some clothes shopping today, starting at Kenwood Town Center, and I found this Bearcat greeting me at the entrance to the mall. The Bearcat is the mascot of the University of Cincinnati sports teams, and there is a public art display around the city for the next 6 months, featuring thirty Bearcat statues celebrating everyday ‘heroes’ such as nurses, doctors, police officers, fire fighters or in this example astronauts. They are decorated by local artists including students from area high schools. In addition to the Bearcats mascots, the Cincinnati Reds (baseball team) have installed commemorative benches around town this summer with a seated Mr Redlegs, their mascot, celebrating their 150th anniversary! So there’s plenty of fun artwork to look out for around Cincinnati this summer!
