hand knitted?

Or rather, as Anniemay corrects me in her teacher's voice, 'arm knitting'.  I think she's joking; "is arm knitting a thing?"  I ask.  Apparently it is.

She's teaching her niece Helen, who's staying for a few days, to knit.  Helen is making a blanket.  Well I didn't think it would be a hat, with that amount of wool.  Wonders never cease.
