Smailholm Tower

We took our traditional birthday trip to visit a castle (or something similar) and settled on Smailholm Tower in the Scottish Borders this year. Here is the beginning of the tradition! It was Baby's first visit to a Historic Scotland site, although I think she slept through most of it.

I particularly liked the contrast of the stonework around the doorway to the tower. The doors were all quite low, as they often are in these old buildings, and my husband had to duck. Easier said than done while you have a baby in a carrier! My sister had to duck too, but I was fine ...
