Wildflower Meadow Project #4: Turf is Very Heavy!

Especially when it's wet!  The phone call from the trucking company came earlier than expected and I was glad I had asked a neighbour if it could offload near her house (we live on a steep, narrow road not made for big trucks!)  The driver gave us the news that, although we had requested the small truck, he was in one twice the size.....

Long story short, our wildflower turf was offloaded at the bottom of the lane, and having helped the truck driver to manoeuvre back on to the main road, we set about wheelbarrowing it up the lane to the garden!  Turf is very heavy, especially when full of flowers and grasses and very wet!  A neighbour sat on his bench in the sunshine offering helpful observations such as; 'Are you turfing Wembley?'

I secured the loan of a second wheelbarrow from another neighbour, thank you Jeff, and we stuck at it.  The turf is fabulous.  As we trucked it up the hill we kept spotting more flower and grass types in it.

Finally, the turf was all at the garden and we set about laying it on the prepared ground.  Then it had to be well watered.  It looks scruffy at present as it needs to recover, and will probably always appear so but then it will be scruffy and useful.  The bugs certainly did not take long to move in.

I was going to blip the turf in place but that will do when it is recovering.  Instead I thought whacked out Tony would sum up the manual labour of the morning.
