A PAIR OF FURY ELMO STOCKINGS
Hang. From a metal rack,
In the middle of a crowded Walgreens' aisle.

Their protruding plastic eyes, pleading,
"Bring us home."

Last of their kind.
They're ready to dangle above a warm fireplace.

I''m tempted to save them.
From a lonely Christmas.
Inside a dark store.

Before I can step forward ,
A red-headed mother appears.
With a pair of toddlers. One in each arm. .
She frees both Elmos' from the rack.
Placing one in each child's chubby hands..

The tickled children.
Giggle with delight.
Well, I think it was the little ones.
Or, maybe it was the Elmos' I heard.
Either way.
