Meet William Croft

A gentle man. Bachelor. Adopted Grandfather. Virtually illiterate. Toothless. Grateful. Naive. Kind. Chain smoker of Capstan unfiltered cigarettes.
With what little education Bill had, he went straight into labouring on the local country estate of the former British Prime Minister, William Gladstone.
He remained a Wood Cutter all his life.
He lived alone in an estate cottage, after the death of his mother and father. The cottage had no bathroom or kitchen, just a tap and toilet.
Bill's one bane in life was Norman. Another labourer. They worked together always, regularly falling out and yet being trapped in their isolated work tasks in Bilberry Woods, with only the trees as their witness, until Norman died.
Many years later after Bill passed away, after a painful death from lung cancer, his coffin was placed in his parents' grave, right next to Norman's grave.
Now there's an irony!
