T J Hughes closing down.

This was a popular discount department store here in Eastbourne. The lease was running out, and the building has been showing signs of heavy wear and tear over the last few years. As far as I know they will not be moving into the new extension to the indoor mall -  too expensive. All the goods have been sold off. Only Debenhams still to go, then there will be no department stores left.

Eastbourne is not what it was when one Theresa Brasier was born here in 1962. Usual shop closures, homelessness and street drinking have changed its genteel image. I wonder if she has been back to take a look. And reflect.
