Old Wood New Screw

I like the optimism of whoever did this repair to a gate post.  It was obviously coming away from the light coloured wood to the left which looks as new as the screw.  However, the painted piece of wood looks past its' best and the screw may have dislodged some rotten bits on its' way in.  The wood also has a number of layers of peeling and cracking paint and is overdue another coat.
