"Heroic Failure" at Hay Festival
A book by Fintan O'Toole who, here being interviewed by Sarfraz Manzoor, gave a huge audience an analysis of Brexit motives and themes. It was hugely interesting, but the main thrust seemed to be that the British feel oppressed by the EU, perhaps because we are now not top dogs, and that sense of oppression has led to Brexiters wanting to relieve themselves by leaving – whatever the cost.
And Vernon Bogdanor gave us the academic analysis, based on his knowledge of government and the constitution; the British will need to come out of Brexit (if it happens) with an idea of what to do next constitutionally.
