Memorials

In the US today is Memorial Day, a day to honor soldiers who died in battle. Across the US volunteers track which plots are those of veterans and place flags there for Memorial Day. Although there are no longer biological relatives near I am confident the Veterans of Foreign Wars arranged a flag to be placed near my grandfather's plaque. (He was MIA so his body isn't there.)

The cemetery near my house is very old and has a lot of history in it. The volunteers place different flags based on how many states were in the Union at the time of the war in which the person served. There are also flags for firefighters. There was one Confederate flag.

On the way to the cemetery there is a "ghost bike." It looks new and I haven't seen it there before. A ghost bike is a bike that has been painted white and placed to memorialize a bicyclist who has been killed. This one has flowers and personal items by it.

I'm glad no ghost bike was put up for me.

I did learn about "spot metering" today - something mentioned by the nice man I met yesterday.
