Menemsha Harbor, Martha's Vineyard
Today we explored the island -- it's only 22 miles long, so it was easy to see pretty much all of the place in half a day. These pictures were taken at Menemsha Harbor, a small working fishing port on Vineyard Sound. (Several scenes from the movie Jaws were filmed here!). Lots of lovely weathered cedar shingles, well-worn fishing boats, lobster traps, and the odd starfish and swordfish just for good measure. The statue of the swordfish harpooner is by sculptor Jay Lagemann, who was commissioned to create the work by the town of Chilmark to commemorate its tricentennial in 1994.
PS: Wishing the inimitable Mr. W a very happy 68th birthday today!
