Coal Drops

Back at work today.
Walked a mile or so to the offices at Fartown for a training presentation and on the way back I passed the old coal drops at Hillhouse.
There are 40 drops in total. Above them were the Hillhouse sidings, where the railway wagons containing coal and other materials were unloaded and the material dropped down into carts below. Each bay has a system of hatches operated by a rack and pinion system. They were in use up to the 1970s.
