Border Tails

By Swannie

Out in the rain.

A few weeks ago, I wandered into the Co-op in Melrose after work one Saturday, to be met by a man who was worried that I was a traffic warden about to stick a ticket on his car (just because I had my hi-viz on)! He was part of the Borders Vintage Automobile Club and they had been in the store all day selling raffle tickets to win a Mini. One of his colleagues said, I didn’t look like a traffic warden, but was I a bus driver because they were looking for one.

To cut a long story short, I have taken this weekend off so that I can drive a courtesy bus at their annual rally at Thirlestane Castle on Sunday. Tonight I went to meet some of the organisers and stewards. I spent an hour and a half standing in the rain listening to people argue what way they were going to park cars. And I suspect it may all change again before Sunday!
