Baby Black Redstart
Two baby redstarts were being fed by mum and it was the noise of their calls which alerted me to a possible nest. No nest in fact but two fledged chicks, not out of the derelict hut they had been born in though. Mum is in the extra who was out and about getting insects to bring in.
On the banks of the River Taurion in Bourganeuf, for a wander to break the journey through France, we stopped when seeing a river. What really intruiged me was the noise coming from the grasses near the river bank and on tracking it down so quietly and carefully - pulling apart the grasses - revealed a tiny green woodpecker chick. See Extra. Mum was calling and he was responding so it wasn't too difficult to stand still and wait for the cries. I was not so sure there wasn't something wrong with his eye so he didn't see me tentatively parting the grasses to get a better look.
We are now on Lake Vassiviére, Auphelle, watching the lights after the sun has gone down with a cold glass of wine after an amazing dinner.
