Invisible Women

Imagine a world where you are 47 per cent more likely to be seriously injured in a car accident or the doctor prescribes a drug that’s wrong for your body. If you are a woman this is the reality, for it is a world designed by men.
Caroline Criado-Perez spoke at Hay Festival today about gender bias and the way it’s likely to increase in the future because white young men write the algorithms which govern our lives and on which machine learning depends.

So sexism, ageism and racism will be perpetuated into the future by default unless we make conscious decisions to recognise and eradicate them.

A recurring theme in question time all week is the lack of a moral or ethical code in the creating of algorithms for machine learning.

The big question is: whose morals or ethics do you put into the machines?
