this ordinary scene

this familiar scene of rooftops outside my niece's room may seem ordinary to me because i see it every week, but it's not so ordinary when i think about my world back in the states.

my house in the Pleasantville-like neighborhood in Texas, with the neatly cut front lawns and the uniformed-looking mailboxes, may have seemed ordinary to me then, but when i try to describe it to the people in Vietnam it stopped seeming ordinary. to them, it's unimaginable.

so i took this picture. in case one day someone ask me to describe what VN looks like, i'll show them this picture and say, "this is what their roofs look like."
