On the Way Home...........
...............from spending a lovely Christmas with Anni and Himself, I deviated a little to get todays Blip. It is the Mill at Moulton which is 100ft to the top of the ogee cap and is the tallest working mill in the UK and one of the tallest worldwide. It was built in 1822 by Robert King and was fully functional until 1894 when a harsh gale damaged the sails - these were removed in 1895. It was taken over by the Bickerdyke family in 1924 and continued to mill small amounts of animal feed until 1995.
A local campaign was established to restore the Grade1 listed building to full working order.
The project won a huge Heritage Lottery fund grant. New sails were added in 2011 to complete the restoration.
The completion took nearly 14 years to complete at a cost of nearly £2m.
This is the third Mill I have photographed and I would like to feature all or most of the ones Lincolnshire in the next few months - as I think that the communities around each have put in so much effort, it would be a shame if that effort were not more widely seen.
I have had a lovely Christmas and am still feeling somewhat full from far too much food! - and completely spoiled as regards presents! I hope you all have enjoyed yours as much as I have.
The weather has been very mixed - a bit of sun, quite a lot of rain and cloud - at least no fog around here
