The Spinning Room

Sneak peek into the spinning room at the Dockyard this afternoon where they spun the hemp to make the ropes.

The scale of the machinery was fascinating. Standing in the room I felt like I could almost hear the Dockyard workers spinning the machines.

The spinning room was mostly women who used to stand on top of the machines. I don’t think health and safety existed back in 1785 when the ropery opened!
